IAM Education Values
IAM seeks to support and train leaders in community by cultivating values important to our Indigenous peoples.
Community
Believers find their identity in Christ and as members of a wider family, as members of the Body of Christ, where belonging and connection to others are foundational to spiritual life and purpose rather than personal recognition.
Romans 12:5 (NIV) — “So in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.”
1 Corinthians 12:27 (NIV) — “Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.”
Consensus
Decisions are made prayerfully and communally, seeking the guidance of the Holy Spirit along with unity and peace in respect for the wisdom of the whole community rather than individual preferences.
Acts 15:28 (NIV) — “It seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us not to burden you with anything beyond the following requirements…”
Philippians 2:2 (NIV) — “Then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind.”
Support
Members serve and uplift one another, recognizing that spiritual and practical well-being flourishes when burdens and blessings are shared.
Galatians 6:2 (NIV) — “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”
1 Thessalonians 5:11 (NIV) — “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.”
Loyalty
Faithfulness to Christ involves steadfast commitment to the Christian community and its traditions, honoring relationships across time and persevering together.
Hebrews 10:24–25 (NIV) — “Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds… not giving up meeting together…”
Ruth 1:16 (NIV) — “Your people will be my people and your God my God.”
Respect
Out of reverence for God, Believers honor leadership, elders and each other, valuing humility and placing others above themselves in recognition of everyone’s God-given worth and acknowledging diverse roles in the Body of Christ.
1 Thessalonians 5:12–13 (NIV) — “Respect those who work hard among you, who are over you in the Lord… Hold them in the highest regard…”
Philippians 2:3 (NIV) — “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves.”
Collaboration
Ministry and service are shared responsibilities, where diverse gifts and cooperative efforts build up the whole community in love and the advancement of the Kingdom.
1 Corinthians 3:9 (NIV) – “For we are co-workers in God’s service; you are God’s field, God’s building.”
Ephesians 4:16 (NIV) – “From him the whole body… grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.”
Commitment
Christian relationships are rooted in covenant love, enduring through challenges and time, reflecting God’s faithful and unchanging love.
Colossians 3:14 (NIV) – “And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.”
John 13:34–35 (NIV) – “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you… By this everyone will know you are my disciples.”
